Date: July 20-23, 2011
Location: Shipshewana Town Center, Indiana
Theme: “I Am the God Who Heals You” – Exodus 15:26
The Diocese of South-West America under leadership of our Diocesan Metropolitan, His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius, conducted its first ever Midwest Regional Family and Youth Conference from July 20th – July 23rd in Shipshewana, IN. The theme of the Conference was “I am the God who heals you” Exodus 15:26. The Family and Youth Conference was a wonderful and exciting opportunity for the faithful to come together for three days and three nights of Prayer, Spiritual Renewal, Family Fellowship, and Fun. We had around 250 members from the Midwest Region (Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Kansas City, Iowa & Cleveland) in attendance.
The Malankara Orthodox Community has grown leaps and bounds over the past 30 years and has established itself as a strong family of faith in the United States. The Family and Youth Conference allowed participants to look toward the future and reaffirm its mission and purpose. We had various seminars and workshops led by His Grace Yuhanon Mar Dioscoros, the Metropolitan of the Diocese of Chennai, Rev. Fr. Aju Philip Mathews, Tenny Thomas, Rev. Dn. Shaun Mathew, Rev. Dn Philip Mathew, and Rev. Dn. Saju Varghese. In addition, all those who attended where able to more deeply participate in the liturgical life of the Church as the daily canonical prayers are recited and sung by clergy and laity alike.
The success of the conference is attributed to the dedicated efforts of the 2011 conference committee including Rev. Fr. Abi Chacko (Director), Mr. Paul Jacob (Secretary), Mrs. Sibyl Chacko (Coordinator), and all the priests, parish representatives, and volunteers from all of the parishes in the Midwest Region.
